Imitations

A few weeks ago I mentioned the fact that I have a part time job on the weekends which requires traveling. I did not give specifics, but now is the time.

I am a Bondi Band girl. I travel all over the country from California to New Hampshire selling Bondi Bands at race expos and events. I love it! I love being part of race day magic, meeting new people and selling a product I absolutely love.
Michelle recently wrote a wonderful post about Bondi Bands that she has allowed me to post.

Bondi Band first hit the marathon expo scene in Feb 2007. Since then we have hit 100s of expos large and small and have even branched into the triathlon and rowing communities. We are a small female owned and operated American company that hires local women to sew our product. Our philosophy is to put out a quality product at an excellent price and build a customer base one relationship at a time. Bondi Band also donates 10% of profits to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Recently, there have been imitators of the Bondi Band surfacing at the expos. Company's that sell everything from socks to GU to shirts and shorts are now making there own version of the Bondi Band and selling it for less. A company that once wholesaled from us is now selling their version of the Bondi Band. It's frustrating to be the little guy trying to keep your business afloat when someone else copies and markets your product. It's disheartening to go to events and see the "imitators" and try to compete with their lower prices.

To our loyal customers- thank you for supporting us. We appreciate your business. We appreciate your input for new slogans, new pictures for our website and your encouragement that we are doing a good job.

We will be at the Chicago Tri this coming weekend. We will also be in Virginia Beach, Disneyland and at the US 10k Championship over the Labor Day weekend.

Beach Time

Wednesday - 5k fun run 'race', 1 hour tennis
Thursday - 4.5 miles (I only ran because I knew I was going to post. I guess this accountability stuff is working.) :)
Friday - 9.75 miles (If my favorite website is correct.)

I'm off to the beach for a few days with some friends and I have my running sneakers packed. Have a wonderful weekend!

Maybe Another Year

I debated for a long time and realized that a fall marathon will be impossible for a variety of reasons but mostly because training will interfere with the other important things in my life like grad school and my new, occasional part job on the weekends which requires traveling. (run-on sentence or what?)

I am not giving up on marathons because I still really want my 4 hour goal to become a reality some day. I'll just have to try another time.

Now, I know one of two things will happen without a fall marathon goal.
1. I'll get very busy, stop running and keep eating a lot junk food and sadly grow out of my jeans.
or
2. I will keep running because I love to run and it makes me happy. I will learn self control. I will force myself to stay away from the whipped cream and cheese whiz cans. Why is it that food tastes so good when it comes out of a can? :)

I'm crossing my fingers for option #2. Maybe I'll try blogging more to keep myself accountable.

non related: I have been trying to comment on several blogs, but for some reason blogger won't let me comment. Sorry! I have been reading and I am always inspired by your dedication and enthusiasm. Keep it up RBF!
