Highlights

~ Here are two quick running highlights from this past week. ~

1. Seeing the Boston Marathon in person was an awesome experience. My friend and I cheered from a sidewalk between mile 23 and 24. It was incredibly inspiring! Since then, I have been cosidering the thought of running in the Hartford Marathon this fall, but I still need to spend more time thinking about that possibility.
(Pictures to Come - Hopefully Soon)

2. The Running Chicks (Dianna and Michelle) and I finally met for a run, for the first time since last fall. It was great to be back on the trails and to have running partners again!

Sunday - 59 minutes, roads
Monday - rest
Tuesday - 49 minutes, trails
Wednesday - 44 minutes, trails (with the chicks)

I might be famous!

This Monday I have the day off, so I am going to the Boston Marathon!! For the past several years I have watched the marathon on TV and now I get to experience it for myself. Maybe the TV news stations will scan the crowd and you will be able to see me cheering from the sidewalk. :)

Do you have any suggestions for a sign? I like Susan's idea, "Way to go (Your Name)!!".

My running went fairly well this past week. Right now my main goal is to increase my miles a little more each week and then by mid May possibly do a little speed training before the Memorial Day race.
Monday - 38 minutes, roads
Tuesday - 36 minutes, trails
Wednesday - rest
Thursday - 37 minutes, roads
Friday - 37 minutes, roads

Battle Against the Germs

After many weeks of surviving in the germ-infested fourth grade classroom, I finally lost the germ battle. On Thursday I left school early because I was feeling really sick. On Friday I took some cold medicine and tried to teach the best I could. It actually worked out great because I couldn’t talk in my normal "teacher" voice, so the kids had to be really quiet all day in order to hear me. :)
Needless to say, I haven’t run in three days. (Sigh) I can now take a deep breath without coughing, so things are looking brighter for tomorrow.

I hope you all have a safe, healthy week of running!

Monday-39 minutes, roads
Tuesday-30 minutes, roads
Wednesday-36 minutes, trails
Thursday, Friday, Saturday-sick

PE 2999

Did anyone else read the article in this months Running Times magazine about Lake Superior College? They recently added a new class, PE 2999 - Running A Marathon! According to the article, students will earn two credits by completing the course and finishing a marathon. Wow! Maybe I should transfer!?! :) Although I can't be jealous because I took an Adventure Running class a few semesters ago and it was fantastic.

Saturday - rest
Sunday - 45 minutes on the roads

Congratulations to Jon and Richard who had great races this weekend!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week of running!

Junk It Up Friday

My first week back in the "running grove" went very well. Granted my times were slow, but I felt really good. I am excited that spring is finally here and I am making running a priority in my life again.

Monday - 30 minutes - treadmill @ the gym
Tuesday - 30 minutes - roads
Wednesday - 40 minutes - roads
Thursday - 37 minutes - roads
Friday - 45 minutes - trails

As I start a new season of running I want to focus on two things this year.
1. I want to work on my running form and pacing.
2. I want to eat healthier! I think I often get confused between eating healthy and "diet eating". For example, all week long I resisted eating leftover Easter candy and junk food. As a result, my body was craving sugary, sweet candy all week and I eventually gave in. Yesterday when I got home from work, I ate 4 pieces of pizza and then several handfuls of candy. In reality, eating should be about giving your body what you crave, portioned appropriately. Had I allowed myself a piece of candy during the week when I was craving it, perhaps I wouldn’t have over done it on Friday. Let this be a lesson learned, no more Junk It Up Fridays for me!!

*Even though I will be running during the week, I have to keep my posting/commenting for weekends because of my crazy, busy schedule.
